[It occurs to Kurama not too long after they finish investigating the body that he'd seen Akechi with half a bagel beforehand, quickly discarded, and that he doesn't think he's seen him with anything since.

Given the position Akechi is in, that's really not going to work. They need him with a clear head. So he passes through some of the still usable parts of the food court to pick up a few things.

Including some mini cinnamon buns for the purposes of bribing their intrepid leader to eat the rest.]

Akechi-san? We should still have a bit of time before the trial. You should eat something.

[He's sitting at a table in the food court, looking things over on his phone. When Kurama approaches, he doesn't even look up from what he's doing until he hears his name.]

Ah, I had something earlier. There's no need to be concerned about me.

[ It's after Akira has taken some time to make a final round of checking on everyone, he sneaks away to have a moment to himself...

It's after he's sure he's gathered enough composure, he begins heading up to the bedrooms. On the way, he's sending a message to The Coffee: ]

[ It's most likely that he'll already be in there by the time Goro has a chance to reply. He leaves his door cracked and heads over to lie down on his bed, feet planted on the floor.

He's... not sure how he feels about what might come after what he's gonna be asking about... ]

[ Minako has seen him around in passing—a new student starting in the middle of the term, and the most recent resident of That Floor. She keeps meaning to introduce herself, but things have been a whirlwind. Maybe it would be better if she gave him time to settle? She remembers how hectic her first few weeks were.

So imagine her surprise when she manages to run into him in town, sitting by himself at a table, engrossed in his notes. Normally she would let this clandestine encounter go, since he looks busy, but something catches her eye. ]

Is that..?

[ She hones in on the plates(?!) in front of him, specifically on the beautifully balanced piece of crêpe cake, daring to believe what she's seeing. ]

How did you get that?!

[ It was sold out when she came in! Life is so cruel!! ]

[There are other desserts as well, though he has made sure to get some actually nutritious food, too.

He doesn't look up from his studying until he's addressed, glancing between the dessert and the girl talking to him.]

Oh, this? I called in advance to ask about their menu. Some restaurants will place popular items on reserve, if you're willing to commit to arriving by a certain time.

[ Things have been beyond hectic, it seems. Who knew that having a bunch of nosy reporters poking around campus (during a full moon, yikes) could be so stressful. Between that, work, exams... Minako hasn't had much time for herself. But she probably isn't the only one. But it's a Saturday, and by some freak stroke of luck, not only does she have the day off from work, but the homework gods have chosen to smile upon her. Finally, a day to do whatever she wants!

Walking around town, she thinks she spies a familiar face. She could come closer and check to make sure, but is that really necessary? At worst, it will be an awkwardly humorous way to make a new friend. ]

Akechi-kun! Hey!

[ Oh look, someone's calling out and waving at him. Quick, run before she can embarrass him further. ]

But major chains are inferior coffee, tho.

[He's been busy himself, between dealing with his younger self and the reporters. Now that both of those are over with, it's nice to just enjoy a day on the town, maybe visit his roommate at work.

When he hears a familiar voice call his name, he turns and waves back.]

Ah, Arisato-chan! It's nice to see you.

[It's 1:23 am. That's cool and all, with sequential numbers and shit, but do you know where your boyfriend is?]

[He does not, and it's more than a little unnerving. Mav is usually only out overnight on the weekends, and he hasn't said anything about extra shifts this week. He should be back by now. Why would he be so late, without so much as a 'still alive' text?

Akechi tries to tell himself he's worrying too much, that Mav is probably fine and just lost track of time in town or something else equally harmless. There's no way he could've gotten caught up in a daemon attack without the school hearing about it. And the odds of someone on Shido's payroll knowing about his growing conflict of interests and trying to eliminate the largest source are incredibly small, right?

...It's around 1:30 when he gives up on trying to reassure himself and texts.]

[Mav's been going along with things pretty happily, easy banter and smiles throughout the day. It's been a lot of fun to poke around the little gifts Akechi's received in their time away, and which keep rolling in, it's been fun to chill out with a book while Akechi snacks on cupcakes, it's just...been fun. Which would be great and all, but it's really giving Mav a headache as he wrestles with his conscience. Which would be why he spent some time on this very important day in particular on his phone, between the little smiles. Eventually, though, he settles next to Akechi once more, resting his head against him with a soft sigh.]

Um... We need to fucking...work some shit out.

[His breath catches at those words, and his stomach sinks. Suddenly, he doesn't feel hungry anymore, and he sets his current cupcake down with a sigh. The...the fact that Mav is leaning against him is a good sign, right? He should...focus on that.]

[Doopa doopa doop, look who's coming home, a little later than usual, but since finals are coming up maybe that isn't too odd -- perhaps he's been in the library! But no. No, he probably wasn't in the library, because usually when people go to the library they don't return with a bruising eye and a split lip that's bleeding into a hoodie, bunched against his mouth for exactly that purpose.

He checks to see if the bleeding's stopped enough, then carelessly tosses the hoodie onto his bed with a sigh. Fuck, he's tired now that the battle spark has gone out.]

[He looks over from the research webpage he's been studying, eyebrows slightly raised.]

[He doesn't put pieces together right away -- no one should really expect him to, and not just because the infamous Seer was doing a splendod job of pissing him off lately and he should be ignoring the nitwit by now. What most people had seen was a wet Toki zipping off to god knows where, which in the scope of Toki things...wasn't that unusual. But Maverick hears a few other comments innocuously made by other students, and while they might not know just what Toki did or why, he gets the sinking feeling in his heart that he does. He couldn't have... Right?

...Except he was one of the only people that could. And he was meant to.

The anxiety has turned to anger by the time he makes it back to their room, and the door slams behind him.]

What the fuck did you do?

[When Mav comes in, Akechi is sitting up in his bed, face pale and hands shaking. There's a cheap brick cell phone sitting next to his feet that he certainly didn't own before.

When he hears the door slam, he jumps as though he almost had a heart attack, and stares down like a deer in headlights...before burying his face in his knees.]

I tried to get him into more trouble, so he'd be under more aggressive watch. As long as he was out of the way and not able to share his visions...

[bzz-bzzt! Time for an evening text from The Boy. What makes this one different is that there's actually a picture attached! He's taken a few, but Ramona's taken more, and he hasn't really thought to send any until now. Now, though, Akechi gets a picture of the back of a hand -- mysteriously freckled to heck -- with the nails splayed out. Most are his usual black, but on his accent nail he's decided to go for a vibrant, bloody red... He misses his stupid boyfriend.]
