CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Goro Akechi
CANON: Persona 5
HISTORY: Wiki link
STRENGTHS: Pragmatic – Little things like honor, comfort, or the law don't matter to him when it comes to effectiveness. When working toward a goal, he won't hesitate to lie, cheat, steal, or otherwise resort to underhanded methods, so long as they don't interfere with other goals, such as maintaining his reputation. While it might occasionally get him scolded when caught bypassing rules, he isn't afraid to use whatever resources he has available, even if he's not technically supposed to have them.
Observant – He didn't become a detective purely on supernatural power. He's keenly aware of the world around him, even able to remember small details such as a brief moment of dizziness days or even weeks after they happened. This extends to people, allowing him to make correct assumptions based on changes in the behavior of those involved.
Dedicated – Though easily distracted in individual moments, he is not one to give up on a goal because it's become difficult or time consuming. When he sets his mind to something, he can be patient and play the long game, even if it takes years to see the result.
FLAWS: Obsessively Vengeful – When someone manages to earn his genuine hatred, there are no lengths he wouldn't go to, and nothing he wouldn't give up, to punish them. His anger overshadows everything, blinding him to potential consequences, or even details that might interfere with his plans. In fact, he seems to be, on some level, incapable of letting go. Even if he realizes and acknowledges that he should stop, he can't bring himself to give up on his vengeance.
Insecure – A lifetime of being treated as unwanted has left him with a deep seated inferiority complex. While he often showboats, brags, and otherwise acts egotistical, it's all in an effort to draw positive attention in a desperate bid for validation. Not only does this lead to self-doubt that prevents him from really opening up to most people and constant stress about his image, it also makes him easy to manipulate simply by leading him to believe certain actions will get him positive or negative attention.
Distrustful – Having seen some of the worst humanity has to offer, and very little of the good, he's been left with a strong impression that people are naturally selfish. To his understanding, everyone tries to use the people around them, and his value to others is strictly in how he can be of benefit to them. As such, he's loathe to share any information about himself that could potentially make him seem less useful or be used against him, and he would sooner assume people would kill him for what he's done than help him escape Shido's control.
CANON ABILITIES: As a Wildcard Persona user, Akechi can wield multiple Personas at once, and switch between them at will. His first Persona, Robin Hood, uses a mixture of light, dark, and non-elemental attack magic (including instant death), as well as physical attacks, with the potential to learn an ability to revive unconscious teammates and one to lower all of an enemy's stats. His second Persona, Loki, uses strong physical attacks that can potentially cause lethal despair, dark, fire, and non-elemental attack magic, a skill that increases all of a single target's stats, a skill that increases attack at the cost of defense, and two shields that will reflect either physical or magical attacks. Loki also has the ability to 'break the chains on someone's heart', leaving them acting purely on their base desires. He could potentially acquire others, but there's no indication he has, or even knows how.
In the Metaverse, he can exploit popular cognition to perform impossible stunts that are common in media, as well as use fake objects as if they were real and store an effectively limitless number of items. On top of things all party members are shown to be able to do, he can also hide himself so effectively that even the team's Navigator didn't notice him before he showed himself. And also sparkle, but presumably not at the same time.
In terms of more mundane things, he's a capable swordsman and highly skilled marksman.
AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: Goro Akechi
AGE: 17
GRADE: 12
AU BACKSTORY: As in canon, Akechi was born to a single mother, and lost her at a young age. From there, he spent years being passed around the foster system, ending up with caretakers that were, at the very best, neglectful and too busy to show him individual attention. While attempting to sneak away from a particularly bad home at the age of fourteen, he managed to accidentally stumble into the Outlands. There, his Flame awoke, responding to his hatred of the corrupt system that had caused him, and countless other children, to suffer by manifesting a familiar in the image of a more classically heroic version of Robin Hood.
His power caught the attention of a powerful Outlands being called Yaldabaoth, who gifted him with a tool that would help him navigate specific areas of the Outlands. With it, he discovered Palaces, and began to use the information therein to uncover secrets he could use against his corrupt caretakers. But what he saw in these reflections of people's hearts darkened his own. When he found himself in a Palace too dangerous for Robin Hood, an unknown being, actually Yaldabaoth, offered him more power in exchange for owing him later. Angry and desperate, he agreed without caring what it cost him, and Yaldabaoth created a new Persona from Akechi's darkness: the daemonic Loki.
With his new power, he was able to expand his budding reputation as a prodigy detective by driving criminals to act out in public. It also led to his second foolish deal, at fifteen years old. He approached his father, a prominent politician and, unbeknownst to Akechi, an ambitious mage and offered use of his powers in destroying the reputations of his competition. His father had different ideas, however, and turned Akechi into his personal assassin, using him to further the goals of a secret society of supernaturally involved politicians, businessmen, and other individuals with societal sway.
Two years later, after having thoroughly proven his capabilities, Akechi was sent by this secret society to attend Daybreak Academy as a Candle. Rather than simply learning to hone his abilities, however, he was ordered to keep his abilities from his contract a secret, and to use them to upset the stability of the school.
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: As his formative experiences were fairly similar to canon, his core personality isn't much different. However, there are two things that create a major difference in his outlook: necromancy, and Nightfall.
Since learning about magecraft and the possibility of manipulating Blight to revive the dead, he began justifying the deaths of innocents to himself with the idea that he could possibly find someone to bring them back. While this self-delusion hasn't exactly helped his mental stability, it has made him slightly less fatalistic. He still detests himself and what he's done, but he clings desperately to the idea that the worst of it can be mitigated...which at least gives him something to think about as a goal past when he takes his revenge against his father.
While already conflicted about the suffering he causes innocent people in pursuit of his revenge, the sheer scale of Nightfall compared to the canon election has magnified this to an even greater degree. Learning that keeping his father's trust would require sabotaging humanity's best hope of survival has not only fueled his hatred of the man, but it has made it even more evident to him that he's twisted to be considering the cost worth it. He's not so far gone as to fully accept the idea of dooming humanity, however, and can't quite help the occasional moment of self-sabotage...or thoughts of how heroic it would be to play a pivotal role in stopping Nightfall.
RACE: Human
SECRET SOCIETY: Akechi functions as spy, saboteur, and assassin for the secret society called the Rising Sun Coalition, a group of politicians, businessmen, and others with social clout who are involved in the supernatural. He occupies an odd position, being simultaneously powerful and powerless. Due to his role, he knows many of the group's secrets, including names of members, but has only as much influence as he has ability to convince his father, the Coalition's founder and leader, that something is for the best. Additionally, he operates on the rarely spoken understanding that he has no freedom to refuse orders, and will be assassinated himself if he should ever show any tangible sign of defiance.
POWERS: Akechi is a Flame, with powers centered around the use of a type of familiar called Personas. When dealing with beings from the Outlands, he can attempt to capture them or negotiate a deal, absorbing them into a mask to be summoned again later. At present, he can carry up to six, but practice handling multiple Personas could potentially expand this limit, to a maximum of twelve. Additionally, he has manifested the unique Persona Robin Hood from his own heart.
His Flame power also allows him to cover himself with a sort of armor representative of his true defiant nature, resembling a prince's outfit with a red crow mask, that increases his physical capabilities, including durability, depending on the Persona he's using at the time.
In addition to this, he has a contract with Yaldabaoth that has created a second Persona from the dark, vengeful side of his heart. This Persona is, currently, far more powerful, and possesses a unique ability: temporarily suppressing a person's restraint, both conscious and unconscious, and causing them to act purely on the base desires of the Id. The contract also created a second armor for him, resembling a gray and metallic blue striped jumpsuit with a black cape and cuffs dissolving into smoke, a pair of clawed gauntlets, and a helmet with a mask so dark red as to appear black. This outfit functions similarly to his Flame based one, but also allows him to hide exceptionally well in even small patches of shadow.
As a smaller thing, because of his Personas, he has an exceptional knack for archery and Nordic languages.
Thanks to Ren, he's made a second contract with the benevolent daemon Igor, allowing him to observe his personal growth in exchange for the ability to combine his current Personas into new ones that retain some abilities from the old.
After raising the daemonic snake hatched from the debacle with Kano, he's allowed it to use him as a host. This gives the snake the ability to silently communicate with him and leaves him open to potential possession should it disregard the part of their contract that tells it not to, along with placing a constant, slight drain on his mana. In return, it grants him the power to sense hostile or violent intent. This sense has the same limitations as mundane ones, in that distance and obstacles interfere with it. He can get a general idea of direction and distance, but is only capable of pinpointing the exact origin if very close or if there's only one possible source in the general area it's coming from.
Passively, this sense is weak and will only detect strong or dangerously close intentions. In order to pick up on less intense malice, he has to focus on the power. This takes focus, and dulls his reaction to other senses, much like focusing intently on one mundane sense draws attention away from the rest.
